What exactly is an Electronic Cigarette?
An Electronic Cigarette is a device that looks like a cigarette, feels like a cigarette and fulfills all the same functions as a typical cigarette. But the big difference is that you inhale water vapour rather than tobacco fumes. Electronic Cigarettes contain none of the carcinogens or tar found in a traditional cigarette, which makes them a healthier and safer alternative for people who smoke.
-
How does an Electronic Cigarette fulfill the needs of a smoker?
Our cartridges contain Nicotine which satisfies a smoker's cravings. An Electronic Cigarette appears to produce smoke which is in fact water vapour, so the smoker is able to continue a smoking habit in a healthier, cheaper and safer way, without the negative side effects.
-
Can I really smoke my Electronic Cigarette in a pub / restaurant / public place?
Yes! Electronic Cigarettes are are completely legal to smoke anywhere.
The 2006 Health Act makes clear that: ”Smoking includes being in possession of lit tobacco or of anything lit which contains tobacco or being in possession of any other lit substance in a form in which it could be smoked”.
The Electronic Cigarette is neither lit nor contains tobacco, so it does not fall under this law and nobody can force you to put your electronic cigarette out!
-
Will using Electronic Cigarettes save me money?
After the small initial investment of purchasing the device, smoking Electronic Cigarettes is much cheaper than smoking cigarettes and cigars.
Smokers have said they have saved up to 80% on average smoking costs and many people who use the device often cut down on the number of cigarettes they smoke, breaking the habit and ultimately quitting smoking altogether.
However, please note, Electronic Cigarettes are not sold as a product to help you stop smoking.
-
Is there a "right" and "wrong" way to smoke Electronic Cigarettes?
There is not really a right or wrong way to smoke an Electronic Cigarette. But here are a few handy tips to help you get the most from your device:
- Inhale slow and long
- Make sure the battery is fully charged (the light on the charger is green)
- Make sure all the parts are properly connected (to avoid leaks)
- Do not overcharge the battery
- Make sure that your Nicotine cartridge isn't empty! -
What is the smoke released from an Electronic Cigarette?
When you "smoke" an Electronic Cigarette what you inhale is water vapor, not fumes. Condensation is released, which evaporates harmlessly into the air within seconds. Electronic Cigarettes are cleaner and leave no residue in the air, whereas with traditional smoking there's often a lingering smell and cloud of smoke that irritates peoples eyes and breathing system.
-
Do I need a lighter for an Electronic Cigarette?
No, you do not require a lighter for Electronic Cigarettes.
-
How do I switch on my Electronic Cigarette?
Simply inhale on the device and it switches on. There is no switch that you have to turn on or off.
-
What is Nicotine?
In scientific terms, Nicotine is an alkaloid found in certain plants, mainly the tobacco plant (and in much lower quantities in household vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant and green peppers).
As for the effect on the smoker, when Nicotine is absorbed in small amounts (whether from cigarettes, cigars or Electronic Cigarettes), it can cause stimulation, a feeling of relaxation, calmness, and alertness. The effects of Nicotine can last from minutes to hours.
-
Is Nicotine bad for you?
The carcinogenic properties of Nicotine in a standalone form (i.e. separated from smoking or chewing tobacco) have not been evaluated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. But current available literature indicates that Nicotine in standalone form does not promote the development of cancer in healthy tissue and has no mutagenic properties.
-
Do Electronic Cigarettes contain Nicotine?
Yes, Electronic Cigarettes do contain Nicotine.
However, if you prefer, you can buy Electronic Cigarette cartridges with zero Nicotine.
-
I have heard that Electronic Cigarette cartridges are diluted - what does this mean?
We use Nicotine in our Electronic Cigarette cartridges. But, it's not pure Nicotine that is used - that level would be too high and potentially dangerous - so we dilute it to make it safer.
In order to mimic the true Nicotine yield of a traditional cigarette, a solution is produced which contains a fixed percentage of Nicotine. For example, a 16mg cartridge is made from a solution which contains 1.6% Nicotine per 100mg of liquid.
Take a look at the side of a packet of regular cigarettes - there's maybe 0.9mg of Nicotine per cigarette - so you see, even "real" cigarettes aren't 100% Nicotine!
-
Are Electronic Cigarettes approved as a device to help me stop smoking?
Electronic Cigarettes have not been proven to help people stop smoking and are not intended to be sold or marketed in that way.
-
Why is my Electronic Cigarette not smoking?
If your Electronic Cigarette is not working, first check the cartridge has not dried up. You need to change cartridges when the "smoke" begins to diminish. Try standing a weak cartridge on its end for a while - it should smoke well again. If this doesn't help, check the battery is fully charged (try a freshly charged battery), and if there is still no smoke, it may be that the atomizer needs to be replaced.
-
Is it safe to use the Electronic Cigarette - what are the risks?
Electronic Cigarettes are healthier and safer than traditional cigarettes.
With Electronic Cigarettes, there are no toxins or by-products of combustion. That means no tar, no carbon monoxide, no additives - because you inhaling water vapour rather than smoke.
There is however, nicotine present in the cartridges, which poses some health risks, especially in large doses or to those at greater risk (young people, pregnant women, persons with heart conditions and or high blood pressure for example). It is always best to consult your doctor or physician before using any nicotine replacement product.
Because you don't need a lighter to smoke an Electronic Cigarette, there is less chance of burning or fire and people around you won't be affected in the same way by passive smoking.
-
Why is there a warning symbol on my Electronic Cigarette?
You'll find warning stickers on Electronic Cigarette packaging because the cartridges contain nicotine. Nicotine in its pure form is a poison. Our cartridges only contain a small amount of Nicotine in dilution (1.6mg per 100mg of liquid), but it can still be dangerous if used in the wrong way and we want to make our customers aware of that danger.
All Nicotine cartridges and fluid must be kept in a safe place and away from children as, if ingested by a small child, could cause serious harm and medical assistance should be sought.
We have been advised by UK Trading Standards that warning labels should be shown to make customers aware that Nicotine can be dangerous, especially if swallowed by babies and small children. Care should also be taken when disposing of your used cartridges as they can be harmful to the environment. Be sure your used cartridges are fully "dry" before disposal.
-
Does my Electronic Cigarette require any cleaning or maintenance?
To keep your device in good working order you will need to occasionally gently clean your Electronic Cigarette.
Please be careful when cleaning your Electronic Cigarette as rough handling or strong chemicals can damage it, especially the atomizer unit.
-
How long do the cartridges last?
Depending on which brand of Electronic Cigarette you use, a cartridge will last about the same as between 10 - 20 ordinary cigarettes, although this does vary from smoker to smoker.
-
Do you have cartridges available in different flavours and strengths?
